Hello Axel and Theo,
I read your posting with great interest! and whilst I may not be able to assist I wonder if you can assist me ? In a few German news reports of 1943/4 they refer to British ships that were American built (On lend/lease) as being American. I have traced the 'life" on one such ship and wonder if any mention of her is made in"Küstenschutzflottille Dodekanes"?
The ship was the BYMS 72 (2072/J872) a minesweeper, and I give the following part of my report.
Snip/ In March 1944 at Kalymnos the 3’ gun off the 72 was removed by the crew of the German sub chaser UJ2144 (decoy ship) and salvage was recommenced with the help of the Greek tug Titan. On the 26th May 44: B.Y.M.S.72 clear for pumping in some 8 days however eight days, before pumping was scheduled to start the crew of the Titan disappeared!
Titan (built 1917 /105 tons),
In October 1944 the 72 (minus superstructure) was towed back to Leros (Portalago) and beached. It was given the designation GD 07 but never used by the Germans ./Snip.
I have a photograph of her in Portalago with the Porto Di Roma and the Prodie
and believe that she was towed to Salonika at the end of 1944.
and I see that Theo has her listed correctly
Any information no matter how small would assist. I have just located photographs of her launch in the U.S.A and I am hopeful of receiving
some shots of her in Salonica (with a differant style of superstructure)
Unfortunatly the photographs I have of her in Kalymnos and Leros
whilst I was very grateful to receive them are not of very good quality.

Regards from an unseasonly warm Merseyside U.K.
