Hello

Danish freighter Kai (1.746 grt./1921) was according to Miramar wrecked on December 5, 1941 near Schiermonnikoog although Jordan claims she was sunk by a mine July 11, 1941. At that time she was under German control.

However, both Lenton and Colledge/Lenton give a vessel with the same name, year of built and grt. as becoming a British auxiliary minesweeper in 1940 or 1941 (depending on source) and she survived the war.

There was a British Kai (ex Estonian) of 1.251 grt./1904 but she was lost February 1, 1941 near Trevose Head so can be no confustion with that.

Does anyone know how this really was?

Thanks & Regards

Martin

Hi, I think that the British minesweeper KAI was previously the Norwegian whalecatcher KAI of 276 grt built 1926 by Jarlso, Tonsberg and requisioned 08.07.1940.

Other KAI was built as Norwegian Lom in1904, owned by 1940 by Estonian owner, seized by British and 22.01.1941 registered to The Ministry of Shipping (J. & A. Gardner & Co.), London (ON 163837).
