M/T Sagona

Post by Jordi Comas » Mon Mar 22, 2021 8:19 am

Hi all,

The night of 19/12/41 during the Italian underwater attack against BB Valiant, Queen Elizabeth and MT Sagona at Alexandria, 4 destroyers were refuelling from the tanker. Do you know wich ones were? One of them was DD Jervis, damaged in the explosion.

I think the others were DD Kimberley, Kipling, Nizam but I'm not sure.

Thank you very much
Jordi

Hi Jordi,

I can't confirm that these destroyers were fuelling but all four you mentioned returned to Alexandria about one hour before the attack so it seems likely to me that they were refuelling at the time of the attack.

Kind regards,

Hi, Brian,

Yes, the underwater teams entered in Alexandria at the same time when the destroyers arrived and possibly came alongside the tanker to fuel.
