Greek NICOLAOS L

Post by davidships » Wed Sep 29, 2021 10:26 pm

Former Admiralty trawler CHARLES CHAPPELL of 1917 was sold to Greece soon after WW1 and by the 1930s owned by J Lykouris, Piraeus as NICOLAOS L. I understand that she had had passenger accommodation added; and then in 8/1941 was seized by German forces and designated as "11 V 2" - but then becoming a war loss on 24/9/1941.

Grateful for any clarification of her time in Greece, and particularly her loss.

She ran aground accidentally while leaving the port of Kastron (Lemnos). It was not possible to tow her off and capsized later.

CHARLES CHAPPELL was bought in 1922 by Michalis N. Vernicos that renamed her S. NICOLA and subsequently NIKOLAOS being operated as a coastal passenger/cargo ship out of Piraeus.
In 1923 she was bought by I. Lykoudis and renamed NIKOLAOS L. continuing in similar service.
She was seized by the German forces on April 25, 1941 at Porto Rafti and became their patrol boat 11.V.2. Thorsten wrote the rest.

Thanks Aris
I cannot see the 4th and 5th attachment in the forum link, but the first two seem to be plain NIKOLAOS
