LOCH SHIN - lost May 1940

Post by davidships » Fri Jul 02, 2021 11:36 am

Trawler LOCH SHIN was requisitioned by the Admiralty as a boom defence vessel and was lost in Norway in 1940.

Specific date of loss is given as
28/5 https://www.wrecksite.eu/wreck.aspx?239149
26/5 http://www.naval-history.net/xDKWW2-4005-14MAY04.htm and J J Colledge

It may be that both are right (date of bombing/date of final capsize), but I am looking for clarification.

According to my old notes, Loch Shin was damaged by bomb (He 111 from 2/KG 26 and 2/KGr 100), on 26 May and was declared a total loss on 27 May 1940 after an attempt to beach her failed (ADM199/485, TNA).

Best regards,

I agree with Platon - I have her being badly damaged off Harstad by air attack on 26 May and subsequently written off the following day

Thank you both for your instant replies.
That's certainly clear.
