HMS Hasty

Post by Jordi Comas » Wed Apr 22, 2020 3:51 pm

Hi all,

British destroyer Hasty was scuttled by her mate Hotspur during Vigorous convoy on 15 June 1942 after being torpedoed by German S.55 at 05.25h. Do you know what time? It was in the morning but.......time?

Thank you very much

Hi Jordi,

I have not seen the HMS Hotspur report. It is not included in the Vigorous file but the HMS Hasty proceedings is there and it appears that she was sunk probably around 0600 hours.

At 0530 hours, Lt. Cdr Austen made a signal of distress and shortly after HMS Hotspur arrived and managed to take off the crew in less than five minutes and sank the wreck with torpedoes. One rating seriously wounded who had been transferred to HMS Hotspur died and was buried at sea at 0900 hours. So the sinking must have occurred between 0530 and 0900 hours, probably closer to the former.

Best regards,

Platon
