Re: Minimum Age for entry to Royal Navy

The question is "Was he actually in the Royal Navy?"

There is ample evidence of 14 year-olds joining the Merchant Navy. Billy McGee has written much on this

"They Shall Grow Not Old" and "Ropner's Navy"

Re: HMS Galatea

Greetings Jordi The official record does not mention them. Cunningham’s records mentions: Vian’s cruisers. “on 14-15 December Vian’s force was about to enter the searched channel off Alexandria when Galatea was hit by two torpedoes and sunk”. At 10PM on 15 th Vian was off again in the Naiad, with Car...

Re: Trawler Donna Nook WW1

A bit more digging in Lloyds etc shows that from about 1930 onwards it was managed by Mount Steam Fishing Co. Ltd, apparently of Fleetwood.
Managers variously Sir G E J Moody and William B Moody of Fish Dock Road Grimsby but registered throughout in Fleetwood.

A little mysterious?

Greetings Jordi
There seems to be little detail from UK sources, Wrecksite gives some information about both ships, indicating that one ship was sunk earlier and the other later in the day. Have a look.

Good hunting

You have certainly woken up some of us:
A site which has long given up its forum, still has its very valuable data on-line. Probably not known of by most present members.

www.mariners-l.co.uk

Some of us Ancient Mariners found it very useful in the early days. Still well worth a look.

Re: Op Husky (Invasion of Sicily)

I am afraid it is me again. From Roskill’s Volume 3 Part1 The following units embarked from the UK: 1st,2nd and 3rd Canadian Infantry Brigades. (1st Canadian Division) 1st Canadian Army Tank Brigade Plus British units. He does say that Canadian forces were to sail in 4 convoys. KMS18A, KMS18B, KMF18...

Re: Op Husky (Invasion of Sicily)

Welcome to the site. Someone of our gathering may be of help.

I take it that the convoys you have unearthed are: KMF18, KMS18B and KMS 19G.
A search around some other sites besides this one may be dug out by our excavators.
Good hunting
