Sinking of Finnish steamer Jussi H. by submarine S-13 12.9.42
Hello again, there seems to be a couple of small inconsistencies wrt to the sinking of this vessel. The name of the submarine commander is given as Malanchenko here: " 5.– 18.9.1942 Ostsee S-13 (Kptlt. Malanchenko) versenkt im Bottnischen Meerbusen in der Nacht zum 12.9. die finn. Dampfer Hera ...

NH 24
Hello again, this time I'm wondering what happened to the German vessel NH 24, the sources differ: "24 Apr 1944 The German auxiliary patrol vessel NH 24 is sunk when she hits a mine of the Altafjord in position 71°01'N, 24°00'E. The mine was most likely laid by the Soviet submarine L-15 on 15 A...

Re: Memelland ex Etrema
Hello Darius and Thorsten,
many thanks for your replies. So it seems as if the Memelland, escorted by the 61. Vorpostenflottille, wasn't the ex Etrema but one of the other vessels listed by Darius, I wonder which one.
Best regards,
Jan-Olof

Memelland ex Etrema
Hello again, there seems to be some ambiguities wrt this vessel. Firstly according to this old post: http://www.warsailors.com/forum/archive/forum/read.php-1,3,327.html the Memelland , 6236 grt, was damaged in a British sabotage action in Boulogne harbour on the 12th of April 1942. This is corrobora...

The Dagny mystery
Hello, in German sources there's a mention that the Norwegian motor cutter Dagny went missing on/after the 1st of September 1943 while on a voyage from Helnes to Svaerholt. There were five German soldiers onboard. Does anyone know what happened to this vessel, could she have been sunk by Soviet forc...

Re: HMS Thorbryn sunk 19.08.1941
Hello Platon, I tried looking in the book A history of the Mediterranean Air War 1940-1945 volume one which deals with this time frame. Unfortunately there isn't anything to be found for 19.08.41. Looking at surrounding dates, i.e. 17.08.41, it's written that German and Italian Ju 87's attempted to ...

Re: Loss of Soviet destroyer Serdity July 1941
Hello Igor, thanks for you excellent reply. Given your description it seems as if the destroyer was indeed sunk by II/KG1 although to be certain we would need the the time of attack as given in German sources. btw, was Serdity alone or were she in company with other vessels at the time. Best regards...

Hello Brian and Thorsten,
thank you both for your replies, it certainly looks like a bogus attack unless it was an allied sub I guess.

British submarine Seal 19.4.40
Hello again, In some German documents it is alleged that the British submarine Seal , while returning to Rosyth on the 19th of April, 1940, crash dived in order to avoid a torpedo fired against her from a German u-boat. The reason for asking is that this attack is not mentioned on the uboat.net page...

Re: Loss of Soviet destroyer Serdity July 1941
Hello George, many thanks for the translation. There are a few notable differences between the russian text and the other sources. One is the claim that she "sank at 1830 hours after an explosion". Others sources claims that she remained afloat until the 22nd when the destroyer was scuttle...

Hello Marty,
Many thanks for the information you sent. The only problem is that my mastery of the Russian language is negligible. Perhaps I can scan the text and run it through google translate. The reason for my question came from this KTB entry.
Best regards,

Loss of Soviet destroyer Serdity July 1941
Hello, In several sources the loss of the above named Soviet destroyer is attributed to an attack by (one ?) JU-88 from KGr 806 on July 19th, 1941. I'm wondering: - is it correct that the attack on the 19th was carried out by KGr 806. I have seen another source claiming that it was four JU-88's from...

Hello Martin,
Looking at http://warsailors.com/convoys/hx239.html it would seem as if Towy wasn't part of the escort.
