Re: Steamer FRITHJOF of 1859
Lloyd's Register is clear (in both the ship register and the quarterly casualty returns) that the 1859 iron-hulled steamship FRITHJOF, which they listed as FRIDTHJOV ex-VINETA ex-CITY OF EXETER was wrecked 2/12/1900 outside Bukholmen (Aalesund for Hull with herrings). Owned by Knut Knutsen OAS, Haug...

Re: Canadian Ferry Purchase 1944 or 1945
Found a little more, confirming buyer, in the Starke Schell index:
This opens the possibility that she was at least partly re-used, rather than just scrapped - perhaps as a pontoon or similar
ffu = final fate unknownSold 1945 to Marine Industries, Ltd., Sorel, P.Q. ffu.

Re: Arctic Convoys Survivor?
Just for elimination:
There was a Irishman,Thomas Murphy, who survived the sinking of EARLSTON in Convoy PQ17, but he was an AB and died as a prisoner in an SS labour camp in 1944.

Greek NICOLAOS L
Former Admiralty trawler CHARLES CHAPPELL of 1917 was sold to Greece soon after WW1 and by the 1930s owned by J Lykouris, Piraeus as NICOLAOS L. I understand that she had had passenger accommodation added; and then in 8/1941 was seized by German forces and designated as "11 V 2" - but then...
