Loss of submarine Acciaio

Hello again, I see that the fate of this submarine has been reassessed at some point. It is no longer listed as sunk by the British submarine Unruly on July 13th, 1943. The attack made by Unruly was in fact made against the Benedetto Brin which escaped without damage. All this information is, once a...

Loss of Italian submarine Gemma

Hello, I see on Platon's excellent pages on uboat.net, i.e https://uboat.net/italian_submarines/boats/91 that the date of loss is given as October 8th, 1940 but most other sources on the net, e.g. HMA, Chronik des Seekrieges, www.naval-history.net etc gives the date as the 6th. I suspect that Platon...

Re: Swedish RUDOLF, lost December 1939

Hello David and Platon, I can add the following: according to the official Swedish report the crew that survived the torpedo attack were indeed saved by the Cardew and Gunlög respectively. The explosion on the Rudolf happened at 0015/3 hours according to the same report. The crew was, for several re...

Re: Submarine or tuna attack on Oct. 2nd, 1940

Hello Darius and Platon,

I suspect we need access to a more detailed KTB, if such a thing exists, in order to figure this one out.

Re: Submarine or tuna attack on Oct. 2nd, 1940

Hello Platon,

many thanks for the quick reply. It occurred to me that the KTB entry omitted important information, the square was AN 6897 but perhaps that doesn't change anything :)

Best regards,

Submarine or tuna attack on Oct. 2nd, 1940

On the above date the following report came in from the 3rd Mine Sweeping Flottilla:

Does this message refer to a real sub attack (from H 49 ?) or was the crew of M 16 mistaken.

Re: British submarine wrecks off Le Havre

Hello Platon,

sorry for the late reply.

Yes, it is indeed strange that the Germans doesn't seem to have investigated this further, at least there is no mention of that in the KTB from which I took the message.

British submarine wrecks off Le Havre

Hello,

I'm wondering how many British submarines were lost off Le Havre, personally I only know of one, i.e. D-3, lost in March 1918. Could there be more British subs lost in this area and if so which ones?

Best regards,

Re: French tug COSTAUD

Hello David,

in an old document, which I received from Theo many years ago, the date of loss is given as September 16th, 1944. The cause given is gesprengt, selbstversenkt.

Re: Florinha & Lindinha

Hello Martin, I can only offer a couple of tidbits: 21 December 1941: Departs Canton in convoy escorting seized Panamanian cargo ship FLORINHA (later HOKUREI MARU) and tug LINDINHA (later SANA MARU). The convoy arrives at Hainan Bay later that day at 2210. http://www.combinedfleet.com/Tosho_t.htm Th...
