I can add a little - the ship was paid off by the Navy in March 1918 to be handed over to the British Army - the Inland Water Transport Service - along with all the other 'Fly' class boats. I agree with Platon - I have her being badly damaged off Harstad by air attack on 26 May and subsequently written off the following day

HEBE detonated a mine at 11.20 whilst sweeping off Bari: she sank within five minutes of the explosion

Blackburn Rovers was certainly lost on 2 June 1940 off Dunkirk, probably after detonating a mine, with the depth charges exploding as she sank - trawler Westella in company went to her aid and suffered the same fate.

This would suggest that she survived any earlier incident, and was not scuttled.

According to Charts and Surveys in Peace and War by R.O. Morris, the Herald was “…at Singapore, laid up and inactive, when Malaya was overrun”. Therefore there would have been no commanding officer. The contemporary Navy Lists continued to list the Herald throughout the war and also show a Lieutenan...
