CONVOY MKS 32

The Advance Sailing Telegram for the Gibraltar-U.K. convoy gives sailing date as Dec. 2-1943, arrival Clyde Dec. 16.

Arnold Hague gives departure Gibraltar on Dec. 3, MKS 32 joining up with Convoy SL 141 from Freetown on the 4th, arrival Liverpool on Dec. 17, and says that MKS 32 had started out in Port Said on Nov. 22-1943, arriving Gibraltar on Dec. 3.

Transcribed from documents (Advance Sailing Telegram) received from Tony Cooper - His source: Public Records Office, Kew.

Ships in the combined convoy SL 141 / MKS 32 are named at this external website. (See also the OS / KMS convoys from the same time period).

This first table shows the Gibraltar-U.K. convoy. As can be seen in the second table on this page, some of these ships had previously arrived with the Port Said convoy. (See also the 2nd table on my page for MKS 31).

The Rescue Vessel Bury was also with this convoy. She was on her 13th voyage as such, having started this voyage from Clyde on Nov. 16-1943 with Convoy OS 59 / KMS 33 (available at the external link at the end of this page), to Gibraltar Nov. 29, then returned to Clyde with Convoy SL 141 / MKS 32, Dec. 3-Dec. 16. Her next voyage was with Convoy ONS 29 / HX 282, before heading to Gibraltar again with OS 73 / KMS 47, returning with SL 155 / MKS 46. ("Convoy Rescue Ships 1940-1945", Arnold Hague). Convoys KMS 33, ONS 29, KMS 47 and MKS 46 will also be added to my own site in due course.

Comparing the above with a list of ships in Convoy MKS 32 received from Don Kindell, based on A. Hague's own research, I find that A. Hague has also included the following in this convoy:
HMS Ranpura - returning to refit
LST 306, LST 307, LST 331, LST 335, LST 336, LST 369, LST 388, LST 391, LST 392, LST 393, LST 5 and LST 7.

Escorts (also received from Don Kindell, whose own work, covering "Royal & other Navies Day-by-Day in World War 2" can be viewed at this website):
Dec. 3-Dec. 4:
Balsam, Geranium, Mignonette, Rochester, Scarborough, Tavy.

Augusta, Nov. 27-1943

As mentioned, A. Hague says in his "The Allied Convoy System" that MKS 32 left Port Said on Nov. 22-1943 and arrived Gibraltar on Dec. 3.

Transcribed from the list of ships in MKS 32 received from Don Kindell - Source: A. Hague's own research.

As can be seen in the first table on this page, some of these ships subsequently proceeded to the U.K. with the Gibraltar-U.K. convoy. (Note also that some of them are listed in the 2nd table on my page for the previous convoy).
