Hello!
One question. On 19th October 1959, the minesweeper HMS BURNASTON intercepted a turkish vessel called "Deniz" smuggling weapons to Cyprus. Sources state that boat as a caique or an M/V. Is there realy any possibility for a clarification?
Thanks a lot!

Re: Deniz???
Both may well be true - as a motorised caique.
Described in The Times (London) on 19/10 and 20/10 as a "motor boat, registered in Izmir" in reports of the interception and subsequent court hearings on the detention of the captain and two crew held at Nicosia on 19/10 - which note that the DENIZ's seizure was "early yesterday", ie 18/10. In denying the gun-running, the Turkish authorities described DENIZ as on a "routine dolphin fishing expedition".
But in a further report on 21/10, The Times described DENIZ as "the caique" as well as a motor boat.

Re: Deniz???
I have found this:
"For this job, 14 m., which can carry 25 tons of load. tall, 3.40 m. A boat with a 80 horsepower and a speed of 9 miles per hour."
But I don't believe that 14meteres can hold 25tons...
