Hi all,

Japanese bombers sank British river gunboats Dragonfly and Grasshopper off Bangka Island 14/2/42. What kind of airplanes were involved in the attack?
Also, how many people survived Grasshopper's sinking?

Thank you very much
Jordi

Greetings Jordi
Roskill gives no information on those vessels.
There is a footnote to February 14: It refers to S E Morisons "The History of US Naval Operations Vol 111" which gives an account of Battle of Balikpapan.

There is also mention of planes of Japanese ship RYUJO and shore based planes.

Good hunting
Phil

The number of survivors is difficult to discover, as the gunboats were loaded with troops and civilians escaping from Singapore

This account claims it was “Army 97” bombers that carried out the attacks – I am not an expert on aircraft, but I presume that this means the Ki-27 ‘Nate’

Thank you guys!

Over Grasshopper the key is to know how many people were on board.
Just I know there were 42 killed.

Regards
