Operation Jubilee (Dieppe Raid) 19th August 1942.
I'm trying to identify casualties from this ill fated operation. I have worked through the casualty lists at the TNA (ADM358/4316) and cross referenced them with the CWGC website and have found a couple of mysteries.
AB Cedric L.A. Diss (19) (C/JX163110)- He is listed on Chatham Memorial as HMS Sikh, but that ship was in the Mediterranean at the time.
OS James S. Reid (20) (P/JX298953)- He is listed on the Portsmouth as HMS Ledbury, but that ship was on passage from Malta to Gibraltar at the time.
There were a number of Naval Work Parties, so it is possible that these personnel volunteered for these, but in the case of AB Diss, his ship had been in the Mediterranean for some time, so it is not clear why he would have been in the UK.
Any information or suggestions gratefully received.
Regards,
Steve Pegge
