M/T THORSHOLM

Post by rpg3706 » Sun Sep 06, 2020 3:57 pm

Newby here. I am trying to find documentation of who was the Master of the Thorsholm during the period of WWII. I know that Arne Johan Bergersen was on board as 2nd mate in 1939 and worked his way up to Master in 1942. At that time he was listed as a Norwegian citizen but later in life settled in the USA. His cremains were found unclaimed on the shelf of the funeral home for 28 yrs. My organization, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 12, would like to inter him with full military honors at our State Veterans Cemetery in New Jersey. We are trying to prove 1) He served as a Merchant Marine during the war. 2) That he became an American citizen. We know the Thorsholm was involved in all the right places but need to know if he was aboard during those times. Any help would be appreciated.

A quick search found him here (skipsfører means captain - dates and ports he signed on/off Thorsholm are given).

The same site says he became an American citizen after the war, and that he was a recruiting officer for The Norwegian marines in New York from July 1943 to January 1944.
