HMS Medway 30/6/42

Post by Jordi Comas » Sun Apr 19, 2020 8:15 am

Hi all,

British depot ship Medway was torpedoed and sunk by U-372 on 30/6/42 N of Port Said.

Among their escort the book "U-boat attack logs" mentions 8 destroyers including escort destroyer Dulverton but in history.net 1939-1945 Dulverton is not mentioned and just 7 destroyers were escorting Medway plus CL Dido and Greek depot ship Corinthia.

The question is: Was Dulverton in the escort or not?

Thank you very much
Jordi

Hi Jordi,

According to the logbook of HMS Dido for June 1942 (ADM 53/115794) she passed the boom at Alexandria around 2030 hours in company with Medway and Corinthia. They were escorted by Zulu, Sikh, Hero and Dulverton.

At 0714 hours the next moring the convoy was joined by Exmoor, Aldenham, Croome and Tetcott.

Kind regards,

Thanks to this piece of information, I - being an e-boat specialist - realized for the first time that there were two of them in WW II, the first being sunk on Feb 25, 1941, by the German S 30
