Loss of Italian submarine Gemma

Post by jan-olof » Sat Jan 22, 2022 3:18 pm

Hello,

I see on Platon's excellent pages on uboat.net, i.e https://uboat.net/italian_submarines/boats/91 that the date of loss is given as October 8th, 1940 but most other sources on the net, e.g. HMA, Chronik des Seekrieges, www.naval-history.net etc gives the date as the 6th.

I suspect that Platons information is correct but just wanted to make sure.

Best regards,

Hello Jan-Olof,

My data of 8 October 1940 is correct. I have a copy of the Tricheco's report.
I do not know the source of the error in Chronik Des Seekrieges and others. Sometime one makes an error and others just copy it and then it becomes widely accepted.

Many thanks for checking!

Best regards,

Platon

Where in HMA is the wrong date listed? We will correct it. :-)

Thanks Platon for clearing this up.

Thorsten, I looked at this page: https://www.historisches-marinearchiv.d ... 468&lang=1

Many thanks, I will forward it to Thomas.

Edit: Thomas was faster and has already corrected the date.

Hello Thorsten,

The site Chronik Des Seekrieges still has the date in error and incidentally the name of Tricheco's Commanding Officer was Avogadro di Cerrione (not Cerricone).

Many thanks.
