Hi, according to Rohwer's "Chronology of the War at Sea" and some other sources which may have their info from Rohwer as well, the British frigate HMS Towy was part of EG.B3 which escorted convoy HX.239 in May 1943. However, according to Lenton and Miramar, this frigate was only commissioned on June 10, 1943. Does anybody know which of these info's is not correct? Thank you.

Hello Martin,

Looking at http://warsailors.com/convoys/hx239.html it would seem as if Towy wasn't part of the escort.

"Ocean Escort (from above pos. to Long 07W): HMS Keppel, Escapade, Garland and 5 corvettes."

Best regards,

Jan-Olof

Thanks Jan-Olof, Rohwer does not mention Garland so there must be a mix-up there.

Hi friends,

looks like you are right.

There is an interesting book on the B3 Ocean Escort Group:
The Echo of a Fighting Flower - The Echo of a Fighting Flower: The Story of HMS "Narcissus" and B3 Ocean Escort Group in WW2.

Convoyweb site does not show Towy as an escort:
