Trawler Donna Nook WW1

Post by trevor » Sun Jan 19, 2020 7:05 pm

Evening all,
Looking for clarification concerning the Trawler Donna Nook
Its down as being a Grimsby Trawler GY 237 in various references Toghill Page 125 and Dittmar& Colledge Page 186 BUT when I check my records I can find no record of it ever being registered as GY 237
According to my records it was only ever managed from Grimsby but was in fact FD 237 (Fleetwood)
Admiralty Number 1981
Hired 02.1916 as an M/S with various armaments
returned to owners 1919

Can anyone help with this

Thanks

Lost in action with German E-boats off Shipwash on 25 September 1943, she sank after colliding with HMT "Stella Rigel" while manoeuvring to rescue survivors of HMT "Franc Tireur", which had been torpedoed "S 96" (lost, too, after collision with "ML 145")

greetings, Urs

A bit more digging in Lloyds etc shows that from about 1930 onwards it was managed by Mount Steam Fishing Co. Ltd, apparently of Fleetwood.
Managers variously Sir G E J Moody and William B Moody of Fish Dock Road Grimsby but registered throughout in Fleetwood.

A little mysterious?

Morning Phil,
Yes this is the same as I found, I think its a typo with the managers being Grimsby Based when in fact she was only registered as a Fleetwood boat, I have now checked the Registry for Grimsby and it was definately NOT registered at Grimsby
Looking at the Fleetwood database it has only carried the FD reg

I suppose typo's do happen but always took Dittmar and Colledge as my datum to work from
Just for Clarity the info quoted was taken from My website and will be removed later today having posted it from previous sources

Thank you to all who replied
