AMC Comorin

Post by Jordi Comas » Sat Dec 14, 2019 10:38 am

Hi all,

British AMC Comorin caught fire 6/4/41 and had to be sunk by DD Lincoln in the Atlantic. Do you know time of the fire and time when had to be sunk?

Thank you very much

Hi Jordi,

AMC HMS Comorin caught fire in a boiler room at 1400/6 April 1941 in 54°34' N, 21°20' W and had to be abandoned at 2359/6. She was torpedoed by HMS Broke (not Lincoln) who reported that she had 179 survivors (including her captain) and that Lincoln had rescued 121 men and Glenearthen another 104. The signal of HMS Broke is timed 0407/7 so perhaps the torpedoing had just occurred and the position is repeated as 54°34' N, 21°20' W . A signal from HMS Lincoln gave the position of the sinking as 54°51' N, 21°02' W (I do not know if this variance is an error or is more accurate). Sources are the Admiralty War Diaries.

Best regards,

Platon
