Danish freighter Kai / British aux. minesweeper Kai

Hello Danish freighter Kai (1.746 grt./1921) was according to Miramar wrecked on December 5, 1941 near Schiermonnikoog although Jordan claims she was sunk by a mine July 11, 1941. At that time she was under German control. However, both Lenton and Colledge/Lenton give a vessel with the same name, ye...

Re: Piroscafo Motia

BTW Miramar gives renaming into Sicania for 1920 for SA de Nav. "La Sicania", Trapani. Same owner renamed her Motia in 1924 so there is some discrepancy in the dates. Motia kept her name when she was moved to Giuseppe d'Ali & C., Trapani in 1936.

Re: Piroscafo Motia

According to Mitchell/Sawyer British Standard Ships of WW.I, War Dirk was a "D" type standard ship, completed Nov. 1918. Renamed Sicania in 1919 and Motia in 1920. Scrapped Viareggio 9.1959. According to the same source "D" type was a single-deck collier, length bp 285 ft, breadt...

Maurice & Jan-Olof - many thanks - this way at least part of the story is found.

BTW Jan-Olof - that Tosho website I did not know - very interesting.

Florinha & Lindinha

Hello According to Lloyd's War Losses, the Panamian mv Florinha (515 grt.) and Lindinha (531 grt.) were captured by the Japanese at Fort Bayard on December 20, 1941. Florinha became Japanese Hokurei Maru which was sunk by a/c on April 9, 1944. Try to find out more about the Panamian vessels as these...

Fontaine

Hi, as from Lloyd's 1942-43, at least until Lloyd's 1947-48, there is mentioned a vessel "Fontaine" of 224 grt., built 1930 at Lubecker Flender Werke and given as "ex French Naval Vessel". During the war she is British (MOWT, homeport Milford) and after the war became French agai...

Re: French tug Fame

David, only other source apart from Lloyd's is Erich Groener's "Die Handelsflotten der Welt 1942" who also mentions her with homeport Haiphong. No photo I fear.

French fishtrawler Fanion

Hi, looking for the fate of French wooden fishtrawler Fanion (ex Bulby, 101 grt./1918). Until Lloyd's 1939-40 mentioned as French but as from Lloyd's 1940-41 mentioned without owner or flag. Lloyd's keeps that up until at least Lloyd's 1947-48 - to go so long in Lloyd's without owner or flag is pret...

French tug Fame

Hi, looking for the ultimate fate of the French (Haiphong) tug Fame of 226 grt., built 1857 (rebuilt 1888) but as far as I can tell still going strong during WW.II. She is still in Lloyd's 1945-46 but that does not mean she could not have been lost earlier in the war. Thanks.

Re: Torghatten

Yes Davidships, that certainly helps and the info that she was sold in August 1941 is the icing on the cake. The text with the photo (thank you Google Translate) helps also by putting it all in the correct (Quisling) context. All in all exactly what I was looking for so thank you very much!

Torghatten

Hello I saw that the Swedish passengership Eskilstuna Express (288 grt./1928) was renamed Torghatten. In Lloyd's 1942-43 her flag changes from Swedish to Norwegian (still as Eskilstuna Express) but only after the war (I found it in Lloyd's 1947-48 but I do not have access to Lloyd's 1946-47) did Llo...
