Sorry guys, I made a mistake in the translation.
What I though must have been rescue vessels, because of the "R" like in german "Rettung" = Rescue, were mine-sweeping-boats. the "R" stands for german "räumen" = to clear, so "R.Boote" = "Räum-Boote" = Mine-Sweeping-Vessels
The last paragraph must read:

I have tried a translation into english of the Report for Frode - Maybe someone else is interested too. Any comments or corrections of my english are welcome.
I have used the term "U-Boat-Hunting" as a 1:1 translation of the german term. Maybe "sub-chasing" would have been more appropriate.

---------------------

Report of Kapitänleutnant [Lieutenant] (M.A.) [Marine-Artillerie] Tilgner about the loss of the U-Boat-Hunter UJ 1110 on the 9th of Juli 1942

U-Boat-Hunter UJ 1110 left the Harbour of Tromsoe 9th of Juli, 0800 hours towards Hammerfest.

Shortly before 1900 hours, the Boat was about 0,8 nautical miles from Hammerfests harbour entrance. I was on the signaldeck at the time, to watch the entering of the port. At 1854 hours I was thrown to the ground by a strong detonation, splinters of every kind pattered across me. When I got up again, I noticed that the forcastle [fo´c´sle] has been ripped off save one or two meters to the front edge of the bridge. About 100 meter ahead, I saw the cut off part of the ship sinking with the undamaged bow up. Else, I instantly noticed, that the place at the "Backbordbrückennock" [port outside part of the bridge] where the commandant, Kptlt. [Kapitänleutnant = Lieutenant] Kaden, has been standing next to the 1st watch officer, Lt.z.S [Leutnant zur See = Ensign] Piel, was empty now. The detonation, which came upwards from below, must have thrown K. [Kaden] overboard instantly. I believe that I have seen that the paneling and railing of this outer half of the bridge was torn off, but I cannot say for sure.

I guess the cause of the detonation was a mine hit. In this infernal noise, I wasn´t able to differentiate if there have been one or two detonations, or if gun- or handweapon ammunition has been brought to explode too, in which case the boat would have probably been ripped apart totally. As far as I had noticed, the standby depth charges had been defused prior to the accident. I deem a torpedo hit unprobably, because the ship has been hit on the starboard side and was too close to the shore for that.

According to [what I] stated in the briefing room of the 11. Ujfl [11th U-Boat-Hunting Flottilla], the stern sank 1907 hours at the position 70 degree 39,4 minutes north and 23 degree 37,9 minutes east at 38 meter depth.

Wind: S W 1 - 2

Weather clear, visibility good

Seastate: 0 - 1

Last heading: 70 degree

Watertemperature: +6 Centigrade Celsius

The instant launch of the rescue vessels R.55, R.63, R.89 and 90 of the 5th Rescue Flottilla from Hammerfest Harbour, and the active and circumspect rescue operation have enabled the quick saving of the survivors, and earns praise and recommendation. The saved were instantly transferred with cars to the military hospital Hammerfest. Medical help has been administered by Navy Surgeon Major Dr. Haupt and the physician of the 5th Rescue Flottilla.

I have just recieved the official report on her sinking written by Kptlt. Tilgner (I bellieve he was the highest ranking officer surviving the sinking).

Hammerfest, den 11. Juli 1942

Bericht des Kptlt. (M.A.) Tilgner
über
den Untergang des U.Jägers 1110
am 9. Juli 1942

	Wind: S W 1 - 2
	Wetter: heiter, gute Sicht
	Seegang: 0 - 1
	Letzter Kurs: 70 Grad
	Wassertemperatur: +6 Grad Celsius

R.-Flottille geleistet.

	Kptlt. (M.A.) u. Adjutant 11. Ujfl.

Hi Frode,
The UJ-1110 hadn't any official name as she was built as an auxiliary trawler in 1941. Her building "name" / class was "Mob.FD.6" - Mobilmachungs-Fischdamfer nr. 6.

Best regards, and safe diving :-)

Hi Renfield!

I have had 12 dives now on the shipwreck of UJ-1110. She lies flat on the bottom at 72 meters. The shipwreak is quite intact, but the bow has been separated and now lies about 20-30 meters away from the rest of the wreck.

Do you know the real name of the UJ-1110?

If you like, i might be able to send you some pictures from the wreck if that would be of interest.

Sincerely;
Frode Figenschou

Hello all,

According to most sources the [i]UJ 1110/F.D.6[/i] was lost on 09.07.42 after having struck a mine off Hammerfest. The problem is this: Who laid the mine(s)? Most sources agree that it was a Soviet submarine laid mine that was responsible, however they disagree as to the subs identity. Three names are given, namely:

K-21, K-1 and K-3.

Does anyone know which sub it was?
