My father Anders S.Simonsen(who passed away in 1986)was a Dane who was interned and then imprisoned in Kobe Japan during WW2.
He only very briefly told me his story.
They were waiting in Los Angeles in 1940 for cargo and were told by their company to travel to Japan (Kobe).
The Captain did not want to because of the politics at the time and they were suspicious of Japanese motives. However they were threatened with firing and so sailed under protest.
When they arrived the ship was not allowed to leave (although most of the crew managed to leave and return home)
My father being chief engineer and the captain stayed with the ship and the ship was eventually confiscated for the Japanese war effort; eventually being torpedoed.
The captain died in captivity and my father barely made it.
He told me he was in a camp with Australian POWS
Has anyone heard of other confiscated ships or knew my father?
Thak you
