Oriskany
U-480 was sunk that day near the convoy BTC-78 (Oriskany was part of it) with all hands. Apparently this boat was found by the escorts after Oriskany was torpedoed.
U-1208 was sunk in the same area some days later with all hands.
U-255 attack on 26.01.43 and 29.01.43 in the Barents Sea
According to Soviet sources the Malygin was sunk on 26.01.43
The Krasnyj Partizan left Kola Inlet on 24.01.43 and went missing thereafter. The Ufa left Kola Inlet on 23.01.43 and went missing thereafter.
U-255 sank two of these three steamers.. the attack on 26.01. was reported on an icebreaker/freighter and Malygin was such a ship. Rohwer credited U-255 with Ufa and Krasnyj Partizan was sunk by unknown cause (mined?).
Councellor
The correct spelling is Counsellor, according to Jordan (was already an error in Rohwer's book).
This is an error by Rohwer (a silly one) He credites U-32, which laid mines in AN 9322 on 10.03.40. But Counsellor was sunk two days earlier!! U-30 had laid mines on 06.01.40 in AN 9329.
It seems that I have to buy Busch & Röll's book to compare it with Rohwer.. somewhere in the middle is the truth ;-)
