Looking for information: Vosper Thornycroft Technicians in the Philippines during World War Two...
As most of you know the first ships of the Offshore Patrol (OSP) Philippine Army (forerunner of the Philippine Navy) we're British built 55 meter Coastal Motor Torpedo Boats named Luzon (Q-111) and Abra (Q-112).
From its arrival to the surrender of Bataan there were 2 British Thornycroft Technicians Sam Howard and John Herndon that were with the OSP until the end, along with Chief Torpedoman William Mooney USN. Chief Mooney died in Batangas due to sickness in 1942.
My query is no records or mention of the two British Technicians that were with the OSP. I have read a number of books and conducted researches still to no avail... I even contacted Thornycroft in 2007 but they don't have the names of Mr Howard and Mr Herndon on their records.
Any information the group members have on them would be highly appreciated as the two are a vital part of Philippine Naval History for inclusion in the book " A Chronology of Fleet-Marine History" of the Philippine Navy.
