Hello Forum members,
I am new to this forum, so please be patient. My father served in the British Maerchant fleet on the SS Marwarri from 1939 - 1945. He was never hit - which in itself is a miracle consider the convoys he served in including the QP/PQ COnvoys to Murmansk and Archangel. He was also at Normandy - making 5 troop deliveries.
My question is how I can find someone who knows about an incident in the Indian Ocean February 9th 1944. The German submarine U-188 torpedoed the Norwegian cargo shop D/S Viva. All 37 crew were rescued by the SS Marwarri - my father was listed as 5th Engineer.
Here's a list of the crew who were saved. [www.warsailors.com
I would love to hear from family of the survivors to learn more about the incident as I piece together stories about my late father. I can also be reached at email@example.com
Many thanks, and great work.
