I cope with an extensive search of the WW2 merchant casualties. I try to assign particular ships to the loss tables by Roskill but I have some difficulties collecting mine and other / unknown reason victims in 1945.
A) Jan 45: known to me 1) D (262 GRT), 2) Dalemoor (5835 grt), 3) Samvern (7219 grt), 4) Carrier (3036 grt)
+ the fifth ship ??? (16 grt). (Total losses 5/16368 grt.)
B) Feb 45: known to me 1) Auretta (4571 grt), 2) Sampa (7219 grt), 3) Aquarius (187 grt), 4) Notre Dame de Grace (26 grt), 5) Nashaba (6054 grt)
+ the sixth ship ??? (19 grt). (Total losses 6/18076 grt.)
C) Apr 45: known to me 1) Gold Shell (8208 grt), 2) Ethel Crawford (200 grt)
+ 4 unknown ships ??? totaling in 325 grt. (Total losses 6/8733 grt.)
I have already crossed out the Danish fishing vessels Irene Fjord (5 grt) and Skandia (27 grt) cause Danish vessels are not usually counted, and British vessels Falmouth II (165 grt) and Dinorah (192 grt) which did not fell victim to enemy action.
D) Jul 45: known to me 1) John H. Hammond (7198 grt)
+ the second ship ??? (12 grt). (Total losses 2/7210 grt.)
E) Aug 45: 1) A vessel ??? of 36 tons.
All the unknown ships sank in the so called UK waters. I have no idea which those ships could be...
OTHER / UNKNOWN CAUSE VICTIMS:
A) Mar 45: Roskill states 5 ships (6095 grt) as lost due to other causes. According to me, he probably counts the 3 victims of midgets (Taber Park - 2878 grt, Newlands - 1556 grt, and Jim - 833 grt).
The other two ships ??? (828 grt in total) are a kind of mystery for me.
The merchantmen involved in the Granville raid were heavily damaged but not sunk, so they are definitely not counted.
B) Jul 45: A vessel ??? of 27 grt.
Also these ships were all sunk in the UK waters.
Do you have any ideas of their identities?
Even if there is just an error in the table I would like to be in the know about it.
Thank's a lot.
