OK, so the sinkings score stands at five Spanish merchant vessels for the Italian submarines versus four for the U-Boote. A dubious advantage.
A curiosity: the CAMPSA tanker BADALONA, 4,202 grt/1922, sunk by U 453 on 13.12.1941 with 3 dead among the crew, had been on the Nationalist side right from the start of the Spanish Civil War (on 18 July 1936 she was en route from Tenerife to Corunna and so she met with the Nationalist warships coming down from El Ferrol toward the Straits of Gibraltar). Included in the Nationalist navy, she served as the principal refuelling ship for its cruisers, and during several trips from the Canary Islands to the Iberian peninsula she sailed under the German flag with the fake name of SIRIUS.
