Dear all,
a Dutch website mentions for PRINS PHILIP WILLEM the following:
SPREE ex AGIRA, Norddeutscher Lloyd, Bremen,
built 1929 Deutsche Schiffs- und Maschinenbau A.G. Weser, Bremen, 2.065 BRT 1.128 NRT 4.006DWT
When the SPREE was sailing nearby Danmark she sank after hitting a sea mine, later after being brought to the surface again, she was brought to Stavanger, found in mai 1945, damaged condition. When she was handed over to the Netherlands she was renamed as HEDEL. After she was handed over to the Dutch government she was managed by N.V. Maatschappij Zeetransport, Rotterdam, PRINS PHILIP WILLEM from 1949 ...
Can anyone tell more about this mine hit and the following salvage operation. I wonder who was responsible for that and how/why the ship came to Stavanger? If the mine hit was near the Danish coast it's a bit strange to bring the ship to Stavanger??
Regards, Axel
