Hi Jan-Olof,
As U 137 had arrived at Lorient on that date, Hezlet's speculation was wrong.
At 0755 BST/17 in 56°32' N, 22°00' W, CLYDE sighted U 124 (KL Schulz) acting as a weather boat. U 124 in Qu 2983 AL at 0855/17 sighted the British submarine and believed it to be destroyer dived immediately. CLYDE tried to close and the torpedoes were fired at 0806 BST by ASDIC and must have been wide as Schulz did not realize that he had been under attack.
