MORRHUA, requisitioned by the Regia Marina as the escort vessel (pilotaggio Foraneo, or offshore pilot vessel) F 79, was the former ANGUILLA, one of 24 trawlers built in Germany in 1924 on Italian account as a part of the war reparations package for WW.1. They were intended to equip two Italian fishing firms for Atlantic fishing activities (Newfoundland Grand Banks, etc.). She was sunk by German aircraft at Samos in Oct. 1943.
I'll publish a piece on the subject of those 24 "German-style" trawlers (plus 2 more purchased later) in the next issue of the Bollettino AIDMEN.
