Hello Bob and David,
TRIUMPH's patrol report for the period of 20.11.1941 to 11.12.1941 can be found at the National Archives in ADM199/1153. By my count this was her 18th war patrol, her last patrol being the 19th. Anyone can provide the coordinate of Bireans where she was supposed to pick up army escapers?
During her attack at 1244/20.11.1941 she fired one torpedo which blew up and sank the tug HERKULES (632 tons) as well as IRENE VERNIKOS (105 GRT) which was near by; NORBURG which was alongside HERKULES and ARKADIA which was next to NORBURG suffered slight damages from the explosion. She fired a second torpedo a minute later but this one missed. Although she fired 14 rounds at the Heraklion aerodrome, her firing was quite wild and shells fell near the harbour instead.
A small correction: BARLETTA was an auxiliary minelayer, not a submarine, as far as I know she did not lay mines in that area in December 1940 but may be someone can correct me.
There is some doubt if SOFIA (a small motor cutter from Paniglia Netzsperrverband) would have been the target of a torpedo attack. The German High Command also expressed doubts as to the veracity of the attack reported by TAXIARCHIS and REA, both had Greek crews. So although it is quite possible that TRIUMPH attacked these vessels there is still an element of doubt.
Best regards,
Platon
