Hello Axel and Theo,
On 10.2.1942 JAEDJOER sailed from Palermo for Sousse escorted by the Italian torpedo-boat PALLADE, off Trapani they were joined by the SKOTTFOSS. On 11.2.42 in bad weather the JAEDJOER lost contact with the other two vessels. At 1824/11.2.1943 UNISON came across her and opened fire scoring several hits. The vessel, described as similar to a Dutch schoote flying the German flag, was abandoned very quickly. A torpedo was fired at 1848 to finish her off but missed. As UNISON sailed away satisfied that her victim was on fire, she suddenly blew up with a terrific explosion (250 tons of ammunition!). The torpedo-boat PALLADE must have sighted the explosion from a distance. Unaware of the presence of the submarine she reported her as blowing up probably from a mine during the night of 11/12 February. PALLADE and SKOTTFOSS reached Sousse at noon on 12.2.1942.
