Merchant vessel loss Thames Estuary Jan 1943

My father-in-Law was a Maritime Gunner Royal Artillery on a
DEMS (Defensively Equipped Merchant Ship). Unfortunately the records for DEPS were kept separately from regular records and are difficult to trace.
I would like to identify the ship, which was either Norwegian or had a Norwegian crew. It was sunk by a bomber in late January 1943, he and others survived.
He was in Sheerness Hospital so was presumably sunk in the Thames Estuary or the English Channel.
