In researching SC-156, the reported attack by U-302 and the sinking of Norwegian freighter Ruth I and Norwegian tanker South America on 6 April 1944 occurred at 45.05N 35.11 W. This location is not near the great circle route from Halifax, NS to Northern Ireland as recorded in the unpublished diary of James E. Cosgrove, MoMM 1/c, in the engine room of US LST-293. The LST was hit in the stern by "something" that night, but it was not determined to be a dud U-302 torpedo until the ship was pulled out of the water for repairs in England. I would appreciate any clarification of this apparent conflict.
