I would like to establish the origins of the Soviet steam trawler RT-49 "Beluga", which according to the Soviet Register was built in Germany in 1941. After the war she was made fit for fishing again at some East German shipyard in the early 1950s.
The dimensions given in the Register (55.85 l.o.a, 9.16 breadth, 4.78 depth) agree well with those of the "Gauleiter Bohle" as listed in Gröner's "Deutsche Kriegsschiffe", built 1940 at Seebeck by Deschimag. The "Gauleiter Bohle" was lost off North Norway in September 1944, though unfortunately I don't know exactly where, because there is an error in the latitude and longitude given by Gröner (the position is well inland!).
Does anyone know the true position where she sank? Is it known whether the Soviets salvaged her after the war? Can anyone suggest any other German-built trawlers of 1940-1941 that would be alternative candidates?
A picture that is possibly of the "Beluga" can be seen here
