Ciao Platon,
I agree with your conclusions about the general framework of the facts and the relevant documentation.
Nevertheless, there were two different events on Sept., 13th, 1943:
- the sinking of F495 at Cefalonia (Argostoli bay, as you mentioned): there were F495 and F494 and they tried to enter the harbour but coastal batteries shot and hit the ships. The opening of the fire was an initiative of the COs of the batteries, during a very critical phase of speeches between Germans and Italians to avoid fighting
- the sinking of unidentified vessel at Corfù. This was part of a task force of 13 boats (assault craft and fishing vessels) carrying 2 companies of I. Btl./99. GJR of 1. GJDiv: they left Igumenitza on 13/09/1943,hrs 8:05 and came back in the same harbour on 18:45. Meanwhile, one vessel was sunk, three were damaged and six had engine troubles. The landing failed, even if with very limited human losses (1 killed and 6 wounded).
In any case, the data you gave me are very interesting: I did not find them in any other publication on the subject.
Best regards
Fabrizio
