VOLPI / SUMATRA

Hi all!

The Schiffswrackliste.de states, that italian liners SUMATRA and VOLPI were scuttled at Phuket, Thailand along with a ship called XXVIII OTTOBRE, but suggest a date of 8.12.1941.

Home page [faso1.supereva.it]
gives the date as 10.06.1940.

On 27 October 1944, British submarine Trenchant (Lt. Cdr. A.R. Hezlet RN) launched two Mk.II 'Terry' Chariots to destroy both SUMATRA and VOLPI. I wonder why, if they were already scuttled?

Any more details?

Regards

Mark Gurdy
