Axel,
I don't think a damaged vessel could have made the trip from Rabaul to Yokohama in 15 days. Normal sailing time for Japanese freighters was 5 days from Rabaul to Truk and 14 days truk to Yokohama. That makes it 19 days for an intact vessel, even if she had no engine damage it seems outside the possibilities.
However, Japanese sources are pretty firm in stating she was sunk in the attack on Rabaul. Who knows, with all the name duplications, there is always the possibilities of one fish slipping through the nets.....
