Gasfire was on passage from London for Sunderland in ballast when she detonated a German mine 11-mile E of Southwold at 52 19N 01 59E. 97.02m by 13.89m by 6.09m registered in London and owned by Gas Light & Coke Co, built by SP Austin & Son Sunderland, engine by Richardsons, Westgarth & Co. Ltd Sunderland. 3-cyl triple exp. 2 boilers 188ft q/deck, 32ft f/castle, 5 b/heads and 1 deck.
She was damaged by a torpedo from an E-boat 6 miles NNW of Smith's Knoll on 17-10-1940 while on passage from London for Tyne in ballast, eleven crew were lost and she was beached at Spurn Head and later taken to Hull, repaired by Austin & Son at Sunderland, completed by 3 May 41. Six weeks later she was lost.
